What files can I move to the memory card (expansion card) of a Palm handheld?

It is recommended that you move the main database, PPDoc.pdb, to the memory card. All other files must reside in the PDA’s primary memory.

How do I move the main database file to my memory card (expansion card) when I install/download your product?

If you decide to install the main database, PPDoc.pdb, on to your expansion card you must do the following:

  1. Before installing our STAT!Ref PDA product, you must register your expansion card. To register a memory card, insert the card into your PDA and perform the HotSync operation. Once a memory card is registered you do not need to repeat this process.
  2. Install/download STAT!Ref PDA to your computer. Click here to download our STAT!Ref PDA: PIER© product.
  3. Once the files are copied to your computer (and prior to you performing a HotSync operation) our installer will launch the Palm Install Tool.
  4. Continue to follow the instructions until you get to the Install Tool window.
  5. Six files will be listed in the Install Tool window.
    • PPDIIx.pdb
    • PPDoc.pdb
    • PPDTIx.pdb
    • PPGIx.pbd
    • PPKIx.pdb
    • STATRef.prc
  6. Click the Change Destination button, select the PPDoc.pdb file and move it to the Memory Card window and click OK. (Or you can just drag and drop the PPDoc.pdb file into the Memory Card window)
  7. Click Done (if applicable).
  8. The next time you HotSync your PDA the PPDoc.pdb file will be placed on your memory card.

If I initially installed the main database to the primary memory of my PDA and I want to move this file to a memory card (expansion card), can I do this?

Yes, but you will probably need a third party application to do this. We supply a link to a third-party tool, named, FileZ. Using a third-party tool is the fastest way to move the main database, PPDoc.pdb, from primary memory to a memory card on your PDA. If you decide to use FileZ, follow these instructions:

  1. Install the FileZ application onto you PDA. Follow steps 2 thru 7.
  2. Click here for a link to download FileZ and follow their installation instructions.
  3. FileZ.prc will be downloaded onto you computer.
  4. Open you Palm Install Tool.
  5. Click the Add button and navigate to the FileZ.prc file.
  6. Click Open, this will place FileZ.prc into your Install Tool’s Primary Memory Window.
  7. Perform a HotSync operation to install FileZ onto your PDA. Once the FileZ is installed onto your PDA you do not need to repeat this process.

Once FileZ has been installed onto your PDA, you can continue with the following instructions and move the main database, PPDoc.pdb, from primary memory to a memory card on your PDA.

  1. Insert your registered expansion card into the slot in your PDA.
  2. Navigate to the Home screen on your Palm device.
  3. Tap on the FileZ icon.
  4. Select the View and Edit Files option.
  5. Find and select the PPDoc.pdb file.
  6. Tap on the Menu icon (this is the icon on the bottom left of your device, next to the Graffiti box).
  7. From the File menu, select Move. This will launch the Select Destination screen, listing the destination options.
  8. Tap the Memory Card option.
  9. When the Path option displays enter the following: /Palm/Launcher/
  10. Tap OK (it will take a few minutes to move this file).
  11. Tap Done to return to the Home screen.

If you chose not to use the FileZ tool then you must delete the entire application from your PDA (see instruction in the question below) and reinstall. When reinstalling make sure that you change the designation of the PPDoc.pdb file so that it will be installed onto your expansion card.
