National Nurses Week May 6-12

National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6, also known as National Nurses Day, through May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.

Often described as an art and a science, nursing is a profession that embraces dedicated people with varied interests, strengths and passions because of the many opportunities the profession offers. Nurses work in emergency rooms, physicians' offices, school-based clinics and homeless shelters, to name a few varied work environments. They also have many roles – from staff nurse to educator to nurse practitioner and nurse researcher – and serve all of them with passion for the profession and with a strong commitment to patient safety.

Simply access a disease module and find truly evidence-based guidelines that you can apply in confidence.

ACP Journal Club is an online tool that saves you time by summarizing original research applicable to everyday clinical cases. McMaster Online Rating of Evidence (MORE) gathers ratings of new articles, already assessed for scientific merit, from sentinel readers (a panel of 2000+ physicians from around the world) and gives each review stars for relevance and newsworthiness. American College of Physicians’ Electronic Medical Resource Ranked No. 1 Evidence-Based Tool at MLA’s South Central Chapter Meeting

ACP’s Physicians’ Information and Education Resource (PIER) was named as the leading evidence-based medicine point-of-care tool in a study presented at the South Central Chapter MLA meeting.

The study,"Systematic Evaluation for Evidence-Based Medicine Tools for Point-of-Care," rated PIER highest in all four categories (general information, content, searching ability, and results) of the evaluation compared to 13 other major evidence-based medicine resources.

In addition to receiving the highest composite rating, PIER ranked first in all three subcategories (characteristics of evidence, importance, and level of content and features). The top grade given by the South Central Chapter is significant, as the national organization represents more than 1,100 institutions in the health sciences information field.

The study was performed by library science researchers from the Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center Library, Texas Health Science Libraries Consortium, University of Texas Harris County Psychiatric Center Psychiatry Library, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Medical Library, and University of Texas Medical Branch (Moody Medical Library).
